2008 marks the 150th anniversary of statehood for Minnesota; On May 11, 1858 United States Congress passed the bill for Minnesota statehood and August 29, 2007 marks the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Minnesota Constitution, creating the Office of the Secretary of State. In this commemoration, Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie is emphasizing efforts to enhance civic education and engagement; as we appreciate the development of our democracy over the past 150 years, we also recognize the need to do to more to fully realize the promise of democracy in Minnesota.
