In Pueblo culture, corn is the symbol of life given by the Corn Maidens. As the sun gives life to the corn, the Corn Maidens brings life to the people. There are six Corn Maidens - Yello, Red, Blue, White, Black and Spotted - each presenting a different variety of corn grown by native peoples. In Mary Beth Jiron's blanket design, the colors reflect the lively variety of corn as well as the warm hues of the landscape of the Southwest. Unnapped. 82% pure virgin wool/18% cotton. Felt bound. Clouds of cool blues and purples hover in the sky. A calm, steady rain waters the ground and feeds the lands. Plants, four-legged insects and the Diné beings are nurtured and their thirsts are quenched. Diné (Navajo) artist Gilmore Scott captures the beauty of a female summer rainstorm in this original design for the Pendleton Legendary Collection. Unlike springs male storms that bring downpours, flash floods and thunderstorms, this gentle summer storm is soft and nurturing. Scotts use of colors is strong and bold, echoing the quiet power of Nature and the brilliant high desert landscape. The artists philosophy that beauty is simple design and the harmony of color is evident in this unique blanket. Napped and felt bound. 82% pure virgin wool/18% cotton. Dry clean. Made in the USA.
