A Brief History Of Beltrami County

The Beltrami County Historical Society announced today that three new publications are now for sale. The books were debuted at the BCHS Annual Meeting Sunday, June 27, with presentations by Leo Soukup, Cecelia McKeig, and Sue Bruns, with recognition of the writers, artists, editors, layout designers, and funders who made these books possible. A Brief History of Beltrami County was written by then-local doctor and BCHS founding member Charles Vandersluis. Leo Soukup took the task of updating the work, expanding its contents, and adding photos, maps, and other illustrations. The publication was made possible by a Legacy Grant from the Minnesota Historical Society. Bemidji 125 celebrates Bemidji’s 125 years of incorporation. Cecelia McKeig partnered with Sue Bruns to complete the work, inspired by Bemidji: First City of on the Mississippi, which was published in 1996 for Bemidji’s centennial. All three books are available at the Beltrami County History Center’s gift shop and at the Tourist Information Center. The third book is a coloring book celebrating Bemidji’s history.
