An Odawa legend tells of Wiigwaas, a boy gifted by the creator at birth with the desire to help his people, HIs childhood was spent hunting, gathering, and construction shelters with his elders, Wiigwaas died young, and was buried in pure white buckskins. A white birch tree sprung from his grave, providing bark used for wigwams, canoes, hunting and fishing gear, containers, hats, garments, and more.
