Pendleton%20Woolen%20Mills - Prairie Rush Hour Crib Blanket

Prairie Rush Hour Crib Blanket
Category: Kids

The bison, often referred to as the buffalo, is the largest land mammal in North America. A big buffalo can weigh a ton (2,000 pounds!) and stand six feet tall. And they can run as fast as 35 miles an hour. Long ago millions of these mighty buffalo roamed the plains, prairies and river valleys. It was a time when there were no houses on the hills. When countless forests were green and the trees grew tall. When deer grazed by mighty rivers. Today you can see wild buffalo only in our National Parks, where they are protected. You can see one of the largest herds of wild buffalo in the United States in Yellowstone National Park. Made of our softest wool. A treasured baby gift when customized with embroidery.

Ceremonial Stripe
Category: Blankets/Robes/Throws

These blankets are robe size, the size preferred by Native Americans for ceremonial purposes and wrapping about oneself as a robe. They are impressive as wall hangings and practical when folded on a sofa or at the foot of a bed.
This archival design is a fusion (sampler) of Native American-inspired symbols and colors. The historic pattern has its origins in a rare illustration that accompanied a line of Pendleton blankets made in 1924 (see our Where the Wool Grows Blanket #72316). In the black-and-white drawing, a Native American chief is wearing a robe that inspired our re-creation. The original design was created to appeal to Pendleton's first blanket customers, the Native American peoples of the West. The unique colors and intricately woven patterns were hallmarks of early Pendleton Trade Blankets. The stripe is woven of bands in varying widths, color combinations and traditional geometric shapes—triangles, diamonds, zigzags and more. The pattern underlines how use of color and design established Pendleton as the favorite trade blanket of the era.

Lahaina Wave
Category: Blankets/Robes/Throws

These blankets are robe size, the size preferred by Native Americans for ceremonial purposes and wrapping about oneself as a robe. They are impressive as wall hangings and practical when folded on a sofa or at the foot of a bed.
Aloha to Lahaina, on the island of Maui, once the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii. The Lahaina Wave blanket salutes the islands and surfers, then and now. In 1779, the log of Captain Cook’s expedition ship HMS Discovery recorded the first European written description of Hawaiian surfing. By then, surfing was an art and popular sport among native Hawaiians. Chiefs or kings were proud to show their mastery of the waves, and surfing was known as the “Sport of Kings.” The design of this blanket combines traditional tribal inspired designs from the mainland with undulating waves of blue and turquoise representing the waves of the beaches near Lahaina—every surfer’s dream. The wave images are outlined in a sawtooth design that evokes the power and challenges of the surf.
