The story is set in 1969 San Francisco during a time of intense social unrest, marked by political assassinations, protest movements, the Vietnam War, and a growing counterculture. A brutal triple murder of three hippies in Haight-Ashbury sparks widespread fear and speculation about the killers’ identities, ranging from extremist groups to infamous criminals.
Amid this turmoil, a young private investigator begins a personal and professional journey that leads him into a complex case tied to the murders. Along the way, he partners with a Latina lawyer, and together they pursue justice for grieving parents who are being further harmed by an insurance company conspiracy. Their investigation uncovers additional crimes and dangers, with limited help from law enforcement. Support may come from a United Farmworkers organizer, but it remains uncertain whether it will be enough.
The novel blends fictional storytelling with real historical events and is inspired by an actual triple murder, drawing on the author’s experiences living in San Francisco during that era.
