In 1885, the Reverend Jens Jersild, who immigrated to America from Denmark, had to rely on his ingenuity to provide for his wife and ten children. Using an old knitting machine and fine craftsmanship he began knitting sweaters in his home. Soon friends and neighbors asked to purchase these finely crafted garments. Before long, Jersild Knit apparel was being worn throughout the community. The growing business soon moved to a quaint converted school house and then a knitting mill was build to fill an ever growing demand.
Jersild sweaters were crafted using precious Swiss Machinery. Luxurious lively yarns are jacquard knit to produce motifs inspired by the heritage of timeless Scandinavian design Card Jersild III, a great grandson of the business founder, helped create the garment.
The legacy continues. In 2002, Bemidji Woolen Mills purchased the Jersild Knitting Mills. Bemidji Woolen Mills and Jersild have been partners in quality for many generations. Out of respect for the Jersild name, Bemidji Woolen Mills will continue the timeless dedication to quality in producing fine quality sweaters.
